When Sports History Creates a World of YES for Medically Fragile Children

Sometimes, the most unexpected moments create the greatest impact.

On Friday, April 17, the sports memorabilia world tuned in for something special. What began as a legendary box break quickly became a powerful example of how nonprofit fundraising, community, and generosity can come together to change lives.

Luke Combs and Ken Goldin went live on eBay for Packs with Purpose, opening one of the most iconic basketball boxes of all time: a sealed 1986 Fleer Basketball Box, home of the Michael Jordan rookie card. For collectors, it was a once-in-a-lifetime moment. For our kids and families, it became something much more.

Packs with Purpose: Turning a Legendary Box Break into Real Impact

Every dollar raised during the live event was donated to A Rosie Place for Children, our home away from home that provides in-facility, overnight respite care for children with medical complexities and the families who love them. Fans from across the country tuned in, placed bids, and shared the moment, turning a night in the hobby world into meaningful impact.

This event was such an incredible example showing that nonprofit fundraising doesn’t have to look one way. When people use their platforms to say yes to children and families, the impact can be extraordinary.

More Than $150,000 Raised for Children and Families Who Need Respite Care

We don’t have the final total yet, but we know the number has already surpassed $150,000.

That amount represents more than a dollar figure. It means more than 200 sleepovers at A Rosie Place for Children, provided at no cost to families. It means rest for caregivers, joy for children, and peace of mind for families navigating life with medical complexity.

We are in awe of what this community made possible together.

A Personal Thank You from Our CEO and Founder

Following the event, our CEO and Founder, Tieal Bishop, had the opportunity to personally meet and thank Luke Combs and the team for choosing A Rosie Place for Children at his concert in Notre Dame Stadium.

During their conversation, Luke shared, “We were so glad to be able to help the children. It’s amazing what you all do there.” Hearing those words and knowing the heart behind them meant more than we can fully express.

We are deeply grateful to Luke Combs, Ken Goldin, eBay, the University of Notre Dame, and everyone who tuned in live, placed bids, shared the event, and believed in what this moment could become.

When Visibility Helps Build Hope Beyond Our Walls

We were also honored to see this story included in a New York Times article, helping bring national attention to the importance of respite and pediatric palliative care. That visibility matters.

At A Rosie Place for Children, we believe that families in every state in the United States deserve access to respite care for children with medical complexities. Too many families are caring for medically fragile children without the support they need or deserve and every conversation, story shared, and moment of visibility brings us closer to a future where this kind of care is not rare, but expected.

Moments like Packs with Purpose help move that vision forward.

Creating a World of YES, Together

We are grateful beyond words and energized by what’s ahead. More than that, we remain committed to creating a world of YES for medically fragile children and their families.

Would you join us? One of the most practical ways to create a world of YES with us is to join our extended family. A donation starting at $10/month helps our team plan for the future of respite care in Indiana, and your monthly support helps us meet the ongoing needs of our children and families.
